12 Dec Family Devotion – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
GATHER EVERYONE FOR WORSHIP AND PRAY
Get everyone’s attention by playing a song. Gather around the dinner table, on the couch, or another comfortable location that works for your family. Open in prayer and ask God to bless this time.
MAKE IT FUN.
Play “Statues” with your kids. Play music and make everyone dance. When you stop the music, everyone must pose like a statue. If you catch someone moving, they are out. Discuss how our story today has to do with a statue made by the king of Babylon.
READ THE STORY.
Read directly from the Bible, use a children’s Bible, or summarize the story in your own words. The Bible story this week is from Daniel 3. Here is the gist of the story:
1. King Nebuchadnezzar wanted everyone to worship a gold statue.
2. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew only God deserves worship.
3. They obeyed God even though the king would throw them in the fire.
4. God protected them in the fire to glorify Himself.
ASK THE DISCUSSION QUESTIONS.
1. When might obedience be a hard choice in your life?
2. How did God rescue us from our greatest enemy?
DISCUSS THE CHRIST CONNECTION.
God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire. Only He could rescue them. God rescues us too, through His Son, Jesus. Only Jesus can save us from our sin. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross provided the way for us to be rescued from sin and have eternal life.
Singing is an important way to reinforce and memorize important biblical truths. Our worship pastor has provided links to songs your kids will actually hear in our worship service each week.
CLOSE IN PRAYER.
Take a moment to recap what you’ve learned and ask God to help you believe and obey the truths of the Bible. Pray for any other needs you are aware of as well.
